Mission/Purpose:
I worked with Dr. Cliff Coleman, a physician at OHSU who was looking for ways to teach medical students the 15 patient-centered communication behaviors, organized into 4 "habits," as they are taught at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine. He wanted to explore the idea of using new media and technology to translate the research he has done in the areas into a video series. This was to help Medical Students reference medical training information they way they interact with other forms of information in their daily lives.

What was the role:
Creative Direction, Animation, Videography, Sound Design and Video Editing.

What was the process:
For two years, Dr. Coleman and I met and tried to brainstorm ideas for the project. I worked with him on a script that highlights the things a doctor must do when he/she meets with a patient. We came up with dialogue and explored the pacing of the video, so it isn’t too long. Using the video as a teaching tool meant we needed to have opportunities to pause within the video so that info-graphics could review the events that took place within the video. 
We worked with an actress who works for the hospital to play the patient. Dr. Coleman was the acting Physician. He never acted before, so we ended up taking multiple takes of each shot until he felt comfortable. 
After a day of shooting, we had enough to edit the video to completion. I worked in Adobe Premier the whole time for the video, motion graphics in Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Audition for the Audio. There was a lot of noise in the footage. It required heavy processing for hundreds of audio clips. 
Ultimately, the video turned out great, and many students and faculty at OHSU found it to be a valuable resource.
